Scope and Content

Four items: A. Brochure promoting the proposed Community Hospital titled "Only Seconds Away When It Counts" 12-page booklet, self cover, green and black ink, 8.5x11" horizontal. B. "Small Organization Does BIG Job" by Ann Curtis, an article about how the Community Hospital Auxiliary supports the organization with sales from the Attic Shop in Douglas. Photocopy. C. "Hours for 1971 from 4/1/71 to 7/1/72" Alphabetical list of names and numbers plus hours for Sewing Group, Attic Shop, Volunteer Week and Other. Handwritten on 8.5x11, lined notepaper D. "Hospital Auxiliary Serving Group Volunteer Hours March 31, 1971 to March 31, 1972" note with list of mending and repairs.

Context

Examples of community members chipping in the fund, run and support a local healthcare option. Brochure states that after "the last quarter century" of use the Kirby House has been pronounced "inadequate" as a hospital building by the Michigan Hospital Council and Department of Health and will have its license revoked unless changes are made. The Hospital Board, therefore, decided to build "A New Community Hospital."
