Painted wood (predominately) model of the Kalamazoo Lighthouse by California craftsperson David Michels. The model is mounted on an phenolic plywood base with rubber feet and rock landscaping. Underneath the base is a small electrical switch to illuminate the light.
The model was built as a birdhouse. The windows on the front and rear are the bird access ports. The roof lifts off revealing several 'rooms', as well as the replaceable battery bank for the LED light mechanism.
It was designed and built to weather the outdoor Michigan climate.
According to the builder David Michels, "It was constructed in December, 2013 as a gift for a member of my wife's family who's house in Douglass we visited in August of that same year."
The siding is painted white with the "1895" sign on the front facade. The roof is red. The donation includes printed pages about the lighthouse from the website "Seeing the Light." http://www.terrypepper.com/lights/michigan/kalamazoo/Context
