Venetian Night
1983 watercolor on paper
Jane Van Dis was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and grew up in Saugatuck. She began drawing as a child, and would also model for art classes at the A.K. Gallery. She studied under Saugatuck artists, Cora Bliss Taylor and John Polka.
During the 1970s and 1980s she attended art classes at Western Michigan University. Her artistic pastimes were painting, sewing, writing, and other various craft making.
She was a significant donor of art to the History Center and longtime leader with the Saugatuck Art Club, Woman's Club and Lakeshore community.
This watercolor captures the energy of Venetian Festival, a Saugatuck waterfront celebration held in late July.
