Ship with veneer sailsEntry/Object ID
2024.04.72Description
Decorative model of a three-masted sailing ship with a jib. The model is unpainted except for red and blue-black stripes along the hull. Strings tied to the masts and nails in the hull simulate rigging. The sails are made of varnished wood veneer, possibly from a birch tree, and cut with pinking shears to give a zig-zag edge. The bottom of the hull is flat so it can stand upright on a tabletop. No marks on the bottom.Context
