Beige canvas fire fighter's coat, also called a turnout coat. The 3/4-length coat has a tan, corduroy collar, black knit cuffs and red stripes on the forearms and bottom hem. It is lined with red and black plaid flannel and an inner layer of brown paper. The coat has two flapped pockets and latch and snap closures. The manufacturer's tag that is sew to the back collar reads "The Globe Made by Globe Mfg. Co., Pittsfield, N.H. The suit that suits" and has the name Bill Wison hand written in black marker.
Red letters sewn to the back of the coat read "CHIEF SFD".Context
The coat was worn by Saugatuck Fire Chief Bill Wilson whose greatest flaming foe was the Big Pavilion fire.Collection
