Description

Color map illustration by Debbie Hoffman. The border around the map includes the text "Early home of the Pottowatomies and Ottawas • The first settlement in Allegan County • Was at the mouth of the Kalamazoo River by • William Butler in the fall of 1829" [sic]. The map is sprinkled with cartoons of historic buildings and tourist attractions. Art galleries and churches are numbered and indicated with a red palette or steeple icon. Unique sites include Heron Pond, the "Pier" and Jarvis Field. The Keewatin and Marine Museum are shown near Tower Marina, not near Red Dock. Perryman Street is labeled as Lincoln Road. Map version A is part of fold-out guide produced by the Saugatuck-Douglas Chamber of Commerce. Map version B is a poster.

Context

A poster-version of this map was sold by Debbie Hoffman to local stores in the early 1970s. "Deb Hoffman '69" is visible in lower right corner of map. She left the area in 1977.
