A handwritten note on the back of the photo identifies the people as, left to right, "Olive Ludwig, Delia Thew, Nell Ludwig (Vern's 1st wife), Charles Pelman Ludwig (father of Olive and Vern) and Vern Ludwig." Additional notes estimate the photo was taken in approximately 1898 and "Hotel Butler in background - originally a grist mill." The photo was from the collection of Eleanor M. Koning who lived at 507 Butler.
The building was the office for W.D. Hamilton Lumber and Coal Company (later called the Saugatuck Lumber and Coal Co.) The site in 2025 is Sergeant Marine.Collection
