Scope and Content

Black and oxblood-red ledger used as a guest register for Saugatuck Art Association exhibitions from July 1931 to July 29, 1936. The book contains 260 pages listing the names and home towns of visitors to summer Association art exhibitions.

Context

Documentation of the artists who were in town in the 1930s and the townspeople who supported the arts. The Saugatuck Art Association sought to support the arts during the Depression. The exhibitions were originally at the Saugatuck Art Gallery in the Saugatuck Village Hall and later at the AK Studio. Although this ledger came to the SDHC archive from the Saugatuck-Douglas Art Club, the book is not associated with the Art Club, an organization that was founded in 1953.
