Description

Wooden toilet seat decorated by Douglas artist Nat Steinberg. The top of the lid features a portrait of Carmen Miranda wearing her signature fruity headgear, the lower lid is decorated with a mustachioed, singing penguin, the seat is purple and unadorned, the underside of the seat is the text of the Serenity Prayer: "God, grant me the serenity [servinity] to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference".

Context

Carmen Miranda introduced her "Baiana" image in 1939 so this seat must have been painted at least after that year.
