Description

Two sheets of card stock with black ink fashion drawings. 1. A woman with close-cut hair, knee length skirt and very high heels is bending forward to address a beribboned dog seated on a low-backed chair. In the background a wall sconce is centered on a circular architectural detail. The drawing is signed in the lower left with the text " George Wright Jr. 10/6/31 - Saugatuck for Babe." The back of the card is blank and is pierced at the top with a loop of string for handing. 2. A woman wearing a swimsuit and head scarf is standing in hip-deep water. Water is dripping off her outstretched arms. Fanciful fish are visible underwater, seagulls and sailboats dot the background. The drawing is signed in the lower left with the text " GW Jr." The back of the card has a pencil drawing with the partial text "RED", possibly red line, and some faint notations.

Context

George Wright Jr. is the son of Wright's Pavilion builder and village president George Cary Wright who came to Saugatuck in 1919. In George Cary Wright's 1955 obituary, his son George is listed as being "of Indianapolis." In the 1965 obituary of his mother, Jessie C. Wright, George Jr. is not listed as a survivor and is listed as deceased in the obituary of his sister Genevieve C. Coatoam in 2006. George Jr. is not buried at Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck.
