Description
Major General Henry Wager Halleck, Civil War Commander of Western Theatre 1861-1862. He replaced John C. Fremont in St. Louis and was initially a superior of Ulysses S. Grant when Grant commanded Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. Nicknamed "Old Brains", he was a theorist but won few battles. He later served in Washington, D.C.
