Railroad bridge, ca 1900. Note on back: "The St. Charles Bridge accross the Missouri River. This is on of th most remarkable bridges in the country. It was among the first built in the west. It is more than a mile long from dump to dump and cost several million dollars in construction. The first bridge across the Missour River. Three great bridges were projected in America in the 60's and 70's. These were: first the great suspension Brooklyn bridge; second the great arch Eads bridge of St. Louis; and third the geat El bar or anit-lever St. Charles bridge. They were all three built in the same forecast and the St. Charles Bridge is probably the greatest of the three. It is a wonderful appearing structure. Also, a good view of the Missouri River near its mouth.Create Date
