Description

Stereoscopic View of the St. Charles Bridge (The old and the new Way). On back: " The St. Charles Bridge crossses the Missouri River at St. Charles, sixteen miles from St Louis. It is an iron bridge, intended exclusively for R. R traffic, and including the iron viaduct approaches, is 6, 538 feet long. The main river is covered by 4 Fink and 3 Trellis spans, varying from 306 to 321 feet in length. The piers are 90 feet high above low water, thus affording ample room for the River Steamboas without the use of a draw. It was built in three years by the Baltimore Bridge Copany. C. Shaler Smith, Chief Enineer."
