Grounding is part of three interconnected artworks that express welcome, belonging, and gratitude. As delivery vehicles enter the loading dock of the Seattle Convention Center, they are greeted by a reflective mural depicting various types of root systems of indigenous plants and plants brought by immigrant cultures. Human-made root systems such as steel reinforcing bar and electrical wiring are intertwined with the plant roots. The mural metaphorically connects the land and place to the conceptual work taking place in the convention center.
Grounding is designed in concert with companion pieces Gather and Thank You & Goodbye in the loading dock of the Seattle Convention Center.
