This three-dimensional mural playfully interprets the history of fireworks while offering a nod to the creative spirit and vibrant natural landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Considering the Japanese word for firework—Hanabi (flower-fire)—the design re-imagines fireworks as a lush garden. The artist explains: “The images of the interior soffit reprise grand firework designs of the past and present…the central wall continues the themes of historic pyrotechnic displays accompanied by architectural models and allegorical scenes. The roof offers a celebration of the Evergreen state featuring flora and fauna of the Cascades and Olympics.”
