This sequentially sited artwork links all Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel stations. At each station’s entrance is a cut-granite, diamond-shaped marker featuring the silhouette of an a historical figure connected to our region. Convention Place Station once occupied this location and the two portraits from those entries were salvaged and displayed here: Seattle native and world-famous musician Jimi Hendrix (formerly at the station’s Pine Street entry) and Auburn-born Gordon Kiyoshi Hirabayashi, an activist best remembered for his principled-stand against the forced internment of Japanese-Americans (formerly marking the station’s Ninth Avenue entry).
The preservation of this artwork was produced in partnership with 4Culture and King County Metro.
