“Ang bahandi sa mga tao” is about resilience. The title of the artwork is a combination of words from various Philippine languages broadly meaning “wealth or treasure of the people.” It signals the honoring of stories and the contributions—past, present, and future—of individuals and communities that shape our region. The artist’s intention is to “offer artwork that allows for reflection and revisiting narratives that inform the richness, along with the complexities, of who we are on this land together.” Each “glyph” and combinations of glyphs within the artwork has the potential of being interpreted according to the references and stories that one carries.
