William Ivey was born in Seattle, and studied at what was formerly known as the Cornish School. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his painting practice, while eschewing self-promotion. He utilized a painting process called scumbling, creating color effects through the application of paint layers. He was associated with the Northwest School of artists. A gift from R. C.
