Label

One of a series of works Ramirez created as an investigation of the US/Mexico border which started with the premise "the border crossed us," that is to say: Mexico extended far into what is now the United States prior to the Mexican American war. This work blends iconography from both side of the border.

Label

These investigations of the US/Mexico border start with the truth that “the border crossed us,” that is to say: Mexico extended far into what is now the United States prior to the Mexican-American war. Mashing up businesses and iconography from both sides of the border, these works on paper look at three cities that line up along that border: San Diego/Tijuana, Nogales/Ambos Nogales, and El Paso/Ciudad Juarez.
