The artist describes this piece as, “An ode to mothers and makers.”
Originally a hand-rendered, mixed media collage, the figure in this composition is resultant of a photograph of one of the artist's sculptures printed on vellum and layered onto a hand-drawn Kente cloth pattern. For this iteration, the work has been realized as a digitized, large-scale print applied to the steel surface of the vehicle door. This work is a continuation of Alley-Barnes' decades long “exploration of Black figurative representation, ancestral veneration, and the continuum that is the eon-spanning Kemetic and African diasporic aesthetics.”
