Context

The Franklin Mint is a private mint founded by Joseph Segel in 1964 in Wawa, Pennsylvania. The Franklin Mint branched into dolls after establishing themselves with, among other items, commemorative medallions. Many early, popular dolls included historical figures. The dolls are often crafted from fine bisque porcelain or, later, vinyl, with intricate, hand-finished costumes. They produced dolls until 2012.
