Morimura Brothers, a Japanese import house established in 1876, produced high-quality bisque dolls in Japan between 1915 and 1921. Filling the void left by German manufacturers during World War I, these dolls were marked "MB" or "Nippon," featuring fine bisque heads, glass eyes, and sometimes human hair wigs, often mimicking German styles. Founded by brothers Ichizaemon and Toyo Morimura in 1876, the firm was a pioneering Japanese import/export house based in New York and Japan, initially dealing in antiques, porcelain, and miscellaneous goods. To meet US demand, they launched the Japan Toy Company and built a factory in Nagoya to produce bisque head dolls. Following the war, when German imports resumed, the company could not compete on price and sold their import division in 1921 to Langfelder, Homma and Hayward.Collection
