Handmade quilt featuring 6-pointed stars in a floral fabric with cream-colored hexagons between and within the stars. Flowers are quilted in each hexagon. The center of each star featured embroidered names. Quilt was designed by Elva Haynam with support from other church women.Context
The quilt was presented to Dr. Arthur and Mary Culler, the first minister of Heights Christian Church and his wife. The quilt was designed by Elva Haynam as a money making project. Each name on the quilt cost the owner 10 cents. Elva wrote all the names and then embroidered them so that all would be alike. Other ladies helped with the patchwork. Mary Culler said it was a much appreciated gift used only on special occasions. When they retired, Mrs. Culler gave the quilt back to the church archives for safe keeping.
