Description

In this 1974 photo, Jerry Howarth broadcasts his first game for the Tacoma Twins, which led to a long and success career with the Toronto Blue Jays. He started his long broadcasting career with the Tacoma Twins in 1974. Later, Howarth shared the play-by-play announcing with Tom Cheek from 1982 to 2005 with the Blue Jays. For 23 years, “Tom and Jerry” were the radio voices of the Blue Jays. Then in 2005, Howarth became the Toronto Blue Jays main play-by-play announcer and held that position until he announced his retirement in 2018 after 36 years because of health issues. In 2012, Howarth was presented the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame's Jack Graney Award. Howarth autographed this color photo and wrote “My 1st Team in Pro Ball. Thanks Tacoma.” In 1974, Howarth launched his career as a sportscaster, calling play-by-play for the Tacoma Twins and doing basketball and football for the University of Puget Sound for a couple of years. Then in 1976 he became the play-by-play voice for the Salt Lake City Gulls.
