Description

Two unidentified handball players compete in a friendly match in Tacoma in 1972 in a blackened white photo donated by the Pierce County Parks Department. Handball is played on five continents, in 180 countries and by 19 million people. The sport was first introduced to the Olympics in 1939 and has been a part of the Summer Olympics since 1972. It is played throughout the Puget Sound with the Puget Sound Handball League beginning in 1927 at the Seattle YMCA.
