Brothers Mike and Casey Carrigan were star athletes at Orting High before competing at Stanford. Casey Carrigan qualified for the 1968 Olympics as high school student where he finished 12th. At Orting High he set the state and national prep record with a jump of 17 feet, 4 ¾ inches in 1969. He finished fourth at the 1970 NCAA Championships for Stanford then grew tired of the sport. In 1974, he returned to the sport and vaulted to a No. 4 world ranking. His career-best 17-10 ½ came in 1975 and was less than eight inches off the world record.
