Plywood Tacoma’s Ted Werner goes up strong and is mobbed in an AAU game in Pacific Lutheran University’s Olson Auditorium in this undated photo. Werner had just finished a sterling career at Washington State University where he averaged a double-double over his three-year career, back when freshmen could not start. At 6-8 in the era of Lew Alcindor, he was an undersized big man as the Pac-8 launched, averaging 11.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Also in the shot and playing in jersey #32 for Plywood Tacoma is former Pacific Lutheran University standout Jim Van Beek, who played as a high-achieving amateur for many years with both Plywood Tacoma and, previously, the Cheney Studs.Lexicon
