Norm Mayer (second on the left) runs a drill with three other running backs with the College of Puget Sound's football team back in 1936. After high school in Long Beach, California, Mayer accepted a football scholarship to the University of Washington and later transferred to the College of Puget Sound in 1935 and was an all-conference player. Several years after graduating from CPS, Mayer became the head football coach at Lincoln High School and coached there 23 years, winning 140 games to become the third winningest football coach all-time in Pierce County. Mayer picked up his 100th win when Lincoln defeated Bellarmine 40-0.
