Coach Norm Mayer (far right) is pictured here with the 1953 state all-stars in football. In college, Mayer transferred from the University of Washington to the College of Puget Sound in 1935 and was an all-conference guard. After coaching and teaching in high schools at Grandview, Wash., and Pe Ell, Mayer returned to his alma mater, CPS, and was an assistant football coach and head basketball coach. Then after coaching at Stadium High School, Mayer took a coaching-teaching job at Lincoln High School, compiling a 140-50-6 record in football. He also led Lincoln's cross country team to a state title in 1948. He then became the district's athletic director. Photo by Pringle Studio.Lexicon
