Norm Mayer (left) receives a football and trophy from referee Frank Gillihan in a post-game celebration after winning the annual Grid-Go-Round trophy in 1949. Joe Doyle, wearing jersey No. 92, smiles as he holds a large Grid-Go-Round trophy. Mayer, who grew up in California and played football at both the University of Washington and then the College of Puget Sound, coached football at Lincoln for 23 years. He's one of just 12 football coaches in Pierce County to win at least 100 games. He finished with a 140-50-6 record at Lincoln, the third most wins by a football coach in the county.
