Rickert, who was born in the small town of Longbranch, Wash., in 1921, played in the major leagues in 1942 but World War II interrupted his baseball career and he entered the Coast Guard. After the war he reached the major leagues again and played for the Boston Braves in 1948-49. He made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs in 1942. His last major league appearance came on Sept. 26, 1950 with the Chicago White Sox. Greco played for the Tigers from 1946 to 1957 and was power hitter, smacking 333 home runs in 12 seasons. He was called “the Babe Ruth of the Bush Leagues.”
