Description

Three Thiel brothers played a big part on this 1953 Spanaway baseball team. Over the years from the 1930s to the 1950s, there were seven different coaches for this successful Spanaway baseball team. Dave Harkness coached them from 1951 to 1952 and then Buzz Eley coached them from 1953 to 1955. The three brothers, Art, Ed and Elmer Thiel, all played on this 1953 team. John Kennedy also played on this team and he went on to be a longtime referee for basketball and baseball. Kennedy was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 1962.
