Description

Marv Scott played for the Tacoma Tigers in 1946, batting a solid .283 with 23 doubles and 52 RBI in 109 games. The following year Scott began teaching at Stadium High School, his alma mater where he played on the school's 1936 state championship baseball team. He coached baseball at Stadium from 1947 to 1957 and then moved to Wilson High School when it opened in 1958 and taught and coached there until the 1970s. He also worked as a scout for the New York Mets for 25 years and earned the scout of the year award three times. In 1969 and 1986, Scott received World Series rings from the Mets. Four of the Met players who played on the World Series champion team in 1986 were signed by Scott. Scott also coached semi-pro baseball in Tacoma and he led the Woodworth Contractors team to within one win of the American Amateur Baseball Congress championship in 1958. In 2004, the Tacoma-Pierce County Baseball-Softball Oldtimers Association created the Marv Scott Coaches Award that is presented each year to the top baseball coaches in the community. Scott received this award the first year it was presented.
