Stan Naccarato, front, and Ben Cheney, left, pose with two others as the four wear white blazers with Tacoma Athletic Commission patches. Naccarato was an active member of the Tacoma athletic community. He was president and general manager of the Tacoma Twins, Yankees, Tugs, and Tigers baseball teams. When the Chicago Cubs planned to move their Triple-A affiliate from Tacoma to Wichita, Kansas, Naccarato spearheaded the drive to keep minor league baseball in Tacoma. Cheney founded the Cheney Lumber Company in 1936. He was the force in the building of Cheney Stadium, which opened in 1960. Cheney contributed $100,000 to cover cost overruns.
