Description

In 1964, in the early stages of their legendary sports careers, Mel Stottlemyre and Rick Redman received Washington State Athlete of the Year honors at a ceremony in Tacoma. The men pose for a picture with Janet Huntington. A year later, Stottlemyre made the first of five All-Star Games while playing for the New York Yankees. The Yankees immortalized him with a plaque in Monument Park. Redman was a two-time All-American linebacker for the Washington Huskies before going on to play nine seasons for the San Diego Chargers. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1995.
