A member of the West Coast Hockey League All-Star team skates during the All-Star Game. The WCHL was a professional minor ice hockey league active in the western U.S. from 1995-2003. The number of teams ranged from six to nine and included the Tacoma Sabercats. The Sabercats began playing in the 1997-88 season and had a successful five-year run. Tacoma won the regular-season Northern Division title and reached the league finals in its first season. The Sabercats lost to the defending champion San Diego Gulls in the league’s first Taylor Cup. The following season, the Sabercats returned to the playoffs after winning the Northern Division title again and this time defeated the Gulls in the Cup finals. It would be the only league championship for the franchise, which folded after the 2001-02 season. The Sabercats made the playoffs all five seasons, winning three division championships.Lexicon
