Press release with photo 2006.01.068 on May 22, 1974 regarding Mark Stream.
At 6'6" Mark Stream looks more like a basketball player than a top hurdler. If that is your impression you are partially right. The rangy bland Seattle Pacific College junior from Wilson HS of Tacoma is both was well as an honor student. This Spring Mark calmly rewrote the SPC track record book where hurdles races are concerned, repeating a performance he accomplished as a freshman at the University of Puget Sound before transferring. Mark stepped over the sticks in NCAA qualifying times of 14.5 in the 120 highs and 53.5 in the 440 intermediates. His 440 time ranks second behind Mike Vorce of Western Washington amongst the Northwest's small college hurdlers this year.
Mark is one of four Falcons headed for the NCAA College Division Track & Field Championships in Charleston, IL May 30- June 1 along with SPC track coach Dr. Ken Foreman. The other Falcons are also school record holders, two of them with Northwest small college best marks this year: Steve Sooter, Gary Winkler and Bill Thun.
Although Mark Stream is qualified in both the 120 HH and 440 IH he will probably concentrate only on the intermediate at the NCAA. There is just too much pressure involved in preparing for both races and possibility of three times each by the time the finals come up. The intermediates fit the easy strides and speed of the lanky Tacoman and Dr. Foreman feels that Stream has a chance at earning All-American recognition. The weather has been a big factor in holding down Mark's times this year and with good weather and top flight competition to push him Stream with probably lower the school record even more at Illinois. Mark is confident he is capable of a 52 or 51 at Nationals and that is what it will take to place.Lexicon
