Description

Legendary University of Washington football coach Jim Owens addresses a Tacoma Athletic Commission gathering. Owens coached the Huskies (1957-74), winning the Rose Bowl after the 1959 and ‘60 seasons. His 1960 team finished the season ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press poll and No. 5 in the Coaches Poll, but the Helms Athletic Foundation ranked UW No. 1 allowing the 10-1 Huskies to claim a share of the national title (along with Iowa, Minnesota, Ole Miss and Missouri). Owens resigned from UW with a 99-82-6 record in ‘74 and was replaced by Don James.
