Description

Marv Tommervik (near microphone) speaks while nine others listen at the Tacoma Athletic Commission Sports Hall of Fame banquet. Tommervik coached football (1947-50) and baseball (1947-51) at Pacific Lutheran University, also serving as athletic director (1946-52). Tommervik officiated in the 1972 and 1975 Rose Bowls, and was inducted into the Helms National Association of Intercollegiate Football Hall of Fame in 1963. Tommervik also serves as president of the Tacoma Athletic Commission in 1964. Tommervik was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1942 but did not play, serving three years in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he played for the Tacoma Indians of the Pacific Coast Football League in 1946. Behind Tommervik is Clay Huntington, a Tacoma broadcaster for more than 40 years and one of the founders of the Tacoma Athletic Commission. Huntington was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 1957 and the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame in 1960. He was also a key figure in bringing Pacific Coast League baseball back to Tacoma in 1960.
