A man throws a curling stone at the Lakewood Ice Arena, Jan. 30, 1949, as other players look on. Curling was first introduced on the west coast at the ice arena. The curling club was one of many popular sports played at the rink including hockey and figure skating. The ice arena was the entertainment hub from its opening in 1938 until 1982 when part of the building collapsed and the rest was demolished. This photo courtesy of the Tacoma Public Library.
