Seattle Skating Club figure skater, Pat Firth, is pictured with the 1953 trophy she won for winning the National Junior Ladies Championships in Hershey, Penn. Pat represented Lakewood in regional, national and world competition, winning her first championship in 1951, the Northwest Senior Ladies, and was third in Junior Ladies at nationals. Firth won the Pacific Coast Senior Ladies in 1952 and moved up a spot to second in Junior Ladies at nationals. She repeated as Pacific Coast champion in 1953 and then won the national Junior Ladies title, earning a spot on Team USA’s world team, placing seventh at the world championships in 1955 in Vienna, Austria. Firth was especially qualified at figures — which amounted to 60 percent of the overall score. She went on to earn her United States and Canadian Golf Test medals in figures and freestyle. Firth also earned a master’s rating as a skating teacher and coach. She was inducted into the Tacoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Photo credit Fred Carter, Seattle.Lexicon
