Description

Mary Firth is pictured with the trophy she and Seattle Skating Club partner, Don Laws, won in the Junior Dance division at the 1948 U.S. National Championships. Laws won the 1950 junior title in men’s singles and placed seventh at the 1951 World Championships in Milan, Italy. Laws retired from skating in 1951 and coached Scott Hamilton, Tiffany Chin, Michael Weiss and Patrick Chan. He was inducted into the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Professional Skaters Association Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004. Laws also helped create the ISU Judging System, which replaced the 6.0 scoring system in 2004.
