Dick Rasmussen (left) and Bill Cameron are in costume for a publicity shot of the skit “The Bowery” from a 1950 Ice Follies performance at the Lakewood Ice Arena. The Ice Follies were the precursor to the Ice Capades which featured elaborate production numbers and costumes and later include several Olympians and world champion skaters. By 1955 the show had eight performances and 175 skaters. The rink also became the entertainment hub for Tacoma area residents since its opening in 1938 and continued until 1982 when part of the building collapsed and the rest was demolished.
