Jimmy Claxton played for the Tacoma Longshoremen in 1924 and is a member of the Tacoma Pierce County Baseball Oldtimers Hall of Fame. Claxton played for years all across the United States, sometimes for several teams each year. He is believed to be the first African American to play in organized baseball in the 20th century (he pitched two games for the Pacific Coast League's Oakland Oaks in 1916).Lexicon
