Description

The Names family was perhaps the most accomplished in the history of Tacoma sports, and arguably its most talented member is Clint Names, who broke brother Tom’s scoring records at Stadium High before moving on to a productive career at the University of Washington (1958-61) while his brother stayed closer to home and starred for the University of Puget Sound. While on Montlake, Clint had a three-year scoring average of 10.1 points per game back in the days when freshmen were forbidden to play on the varsity team. Clint also was a varsity golfer for the Huskies and a family endowment helped fund a golf facility at UW. Names went on to be a force in the local amateur basketball scene, serving as Plywood Tacoma’s general manager and coach as well as a player and would eventually lead the team to the National Amateur Basketball Association championship in 1973, following the dissolution of the Cheney Studs.
