Julie Kurrus McGovern was a three-sport standout at Franklin Pierce High School and the school’s first true female athletic standout, lettering in volleyball, basketball and track in all three years of her career to become the first nine-letter winner female in school history when she graduated in 1981. As a senior she led the Cardinals to a 21-3 record and fifth-place finish at state, the first trip for the school to the state tournament. Kurrus McGovern averaged 19.6 points per game and was named the MVP of the Central Division of the Seamount League and was invited to walk-on at Oregon and Washington. She chose to attend the University of Washington and join the volleyball and track teams. Despite her non-scholarship status, she was an immediate starter in volleyball and eventually concluded her career in 1984 on a full ride.Made/Created
