Description

A black and white photograph of Stadium High School football team in the middle of game action on a muddy Stadium Bowl football field. John Heinrick took over coaching the Tigers in 1934 turning the high school into a powerhouse program in the Northwest. The 1940 Stadium Tigers football team was on the tail end of their seven year run of winning the city championship (1934-1940) and dominated city rivals Lincoln High School in their annual Thanksgiving Day game during that span, where the Tigers outscored the Abes to a combined score of 114-to-14. In 1948, Stadium High School played in what was then termed as the “first East-West intersectional high school game” where the Tigers hosted Mooseheart, Illinois at the Stadium Bowl. Back row, from left to right: Jack Wilson, Wes Hudson, Marion Klarich, Roy Murphy; front row, left to right, Fred Agnus, Austin Fengler, Rod Giske, LaVern Miller, Bill Gustafson, Dick Beckman.
