Description

The Lincoln Furniture basketball team post for a group photo. Names was the most prominent member of the basketball team having coming from one of the more prominent sports families in Pierce County and the state of Washington; the Names Family Foundation was formed to partner with non-profit organizations who emphasize health, wellness, and physical education to enrich the community. Names was prominent on the amateur basketball scene in the Puget Sound area where by 1958, one source claimed that Names had “played with some 50-odd Pierce County quintets,” and in the same year, he was apart of the Foshaug’s Puyallup City League champions. Horjes was on the early 1940s Stadium Tigers football team coached by Puget Sound coaching legen John Heinrick. Both Frankowsky and Mahnkey made impacts on the local amateur softball leagues; Frankowsky was a 6-foot-4 pitcher for the Stores-Machinists known for his windmill-style to pitching; Mahnkey who played for the Elks, was considered one of the top shortstops to play where he was later named to the Tacoma-Pierce County Baseball-Softball Oldtimers Hall of Fame.
