Description

Water skiing has been popular among the lakes in and around Tacoma for decades. Joe LaPorte, who moved to Tacoma from San Francisco in 1929, became a top snow skier and also enjoyed water skiing in the summer. From 1952-65 LaPorte was the chief instructor of the Tacoma Ski School, started the Cascade Ski School, Totem Ski club on American Lake and was eventually inducted into the Tacoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2007..
