Description

A.J. Zapp, holding a bat and a baseball, played 136 games for the Tacoma Rainiers during the 2004 season. Zapp, playing for the Tacoma Rainiers, hit a home run that cleared the center field wall at Cheney Stadium on Sept. 1, 2004. The home run, which traveled an estimated 505 feet, cleared the wall, which was 29 feet high and 425 feet from home plate. The blast was off Sacramento’s Joe Blanton, who went on to pitch 427 games over 13 major league seasons. Zapp, who hit a career high 29 home runs that season, was the No. 27 overall pick by the Atlanta Braves in 1996 out of Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind. Zapp played 936 games in the minor leagues for the Braves, Mariners, Reds and Dodgers organizations from 1996-2006, finishing with a career batting average of .255 with 136 home runs and 542 RBIs.
